The S.A.F.E. 1 System

It's a metal box bolted to the outside of the building.  Inside is
a safety harness and specially made rope ladder with wide metal rungs.
To deploy the system simply flick the catch, the front of the box
drops to the ground pulling the ladder out with it, you then put the
harness on and climb out of the window down to the ground.
In tests a family of 4 were able to evacuate the building under 95
seconds.
Dennis Baker the inventor was spurred on to design the system because
of the death of a friend in a serious house fire.
The mother jumped from the bedroom window and was badly hurt and still
uses crutches 5 years later, but her 16 year old daughter would not jump.
The Fire Brigade found her minutes later dead under the bed covers.
The neighbours said at the time "If only we had a ladder she would be alive now!"
That set Dennis thinking and now after five years of development the SAFE 1 Fire escape system is on the market.
